PM Tariceanu to undergo surgery in France on Thursday

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu on Thursday in France will undergo laparoscopic surgery on one of his knees, at the recommendation of a Romanian medical team.
Tariceanu left for Paris on Wednesday and is likely to return to Romania on Sunday. His duties as prime minister will not be taken by another government member while he is away.
Government spokesperson Oana Marinescu said at a news conference that, according to the Romanian doctors, this kind of rupture of crossed ligaments is very complicated and, given the PM’s age and activity, a quick recovery is required. For these reasons, and also because the surgery cannot be performed in Romania, the doctors recommended Tariceanu to undergo it abroad.
The PM did not revealed the name of the clinic where the surgery is to be performed because he wanted to avoid media attention, but medical sources say the clinic is located somewhere near Paris. ROMPRES
